Be Safer. Fire Safety 2018

Fire Safety NFPA image
Fire Prevention Week 2018

This week, October 8th to October 14th, is 2018 National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Fire Prevention Week. The NFPA has come into a collaboration with Firerite and Pennsylvania Fire Watch Guards to educate people of all ages about Fire Safety every second week of October. Public awareness of the need for fire safety began in America in the early 1900s. The NFPA began designating a fire prevention week in the 1920’s to help solve this issue. Early 1900’s Americans had to be very diligent while living in their all wood structures. In early America a small stray spark could begin a fire that turned into a major tragedy- like the Great Chicago Fire of the late 1800’s.

In the case of business, it can be even more complicated. Fire can come from all kinds of sources, and be of different types. Electrical fires are particularly dangerous, deadly, and difficult to control. A routine inspection of the commercial electrical installation as well as commercial wiring by experts such as a professional commercial electrician is a great way to avoid running into these kind of issues at any point in the future. There has been many strategies to try and improve these percentages but some of them have not been successful. A great way that industrial production could improve is to sell electrical equipment. Depending on the engraving business, there could be lots of people to move to safety in the event of an emergency, so it would be best to try to avoid anything of the sort occurring as much as possible. Make sure to hire a professional electrician and have him perform a transformer oil testing to make sure that your transformers and other electrical equipment function properly.

For those of you who might not know, we Lessards come from a family of builders that has been hammering nails since the mid-1900s. Years ago, almost all building materials used were either extremely flammable, or made of wood, so our family has sadly seen dozens of fires that have destroyed a family’s or a businesses’ property. Little that breaks our heart more, so, in support of this week and National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Prevention Week, we’d like to steer you toward the NFPA’s exceptional fire safety resources such as the new evac chair in the market. This year’s theme is ‘Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire Can Happen Anywhere.’ We hope this resource provides you all a starting point to improve your homes or businesses fire safety techniques for decades!

Delaware has been known for generations for its farms. The First State’s rich agricultural history goes all the way back to the region’s earliest colonial settlers, who quickly realized Delaware’s fertile grounds and mild climate made it perfect for farming. Farming began in the colonial days with crops like rice, wheat and indigo which sustained Delawareans physically and financially. Over the years as America changed, so did Delaware; yet the focus on agriculture in the First State never went away. Three hundred years later, those of us in Delaware are still blessed with first-class locally grown produce.

Farms of the First State

We know many people enjoy pumpkin picking, apple picking, and cutting your own fresh Christmas trees during the Fall, so we want to bring awareness to a few incredible local farms that operate in the first state! To see a complete list of all the farms you can visit in Delaware, click the links directly below! We’ll also include a link to a handy harvest calendar for all the fruit and veggie lovers!

Delaware’s Pick Your Own Farm Directory

Annual Delaware Harvest Calendar

Fifer Orchards- Camden Wyoming, DE

You may not know this about Lessard Builders… our model home The Saltaire is in Lewes, but our main office is actually in Camden Wyoming! So, Fifers is like our de-facto hometown orchard! We love Fifers and all the options they have for picking. They offer pick-your-own apples, a pumpkin picking patch, corn mazes, freshly made homemade apple cider, and a store filled with tons of prepicked produce. Fifer’s also hosts an annual “Fall Fest” in October, an annual Strawberry festival in May and an annual Peach festival held on the first Saturday in August. Fifers is open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays. For more information visit their website https://www.fiferorchards.com/ .

Landis Tree Farm- Harbeson, DE

Landis’ Tree Farm was founded started in the early 1990s and has established itself as one of Delaware’s best places to get a fresh cut Christmas tree. What started two decades ago as a few trees on a 20-acre property as grown into a massive tree farm with a wide variety of Christmas trees. Looking for a traditional Frasier Fir, White Pine or Douglas Fir tree? They’ve got them. Looking for a Christmas tree of a different variety? They grow Caanan Firs, Concolor Firs, White Spruce and others. The fine folks at Landis allow for selecting your own tree to cut down fresh or picking from a variety of Pre-Cut Frasier or Douglas Fir trees. They have trees of all sizes, wreaths, memorial wreaths and more available and generally open on weekends after Thanksgiving. Landis’ also offers complimentary hot beverages and cookies while you’re searching in the cold for your tree! For more information visit their website, http://www.landistreefarm.com/ .

No Tricks, All Treats

It’s almost that time of year again, and Coastal Delaware no longer slows down in the Fall like it once did. We appreciate living in Delaware all year long, but there is something special about Fall in Delaware. After most of us spend all summer at the beach, the cool ocean breeze, corn fields and farmland that makes Delaware perfect for the Fall. We love to share the word about the best places and the most fun amusements you can enjoy in Delaware, so here we go! No matter what you like to do, whether it’s enjoy a cold drink or spend time with your kids, there is a ton you can enjoy in October.

We’ll start off by providing you the links to the most comprehensive October activity lists that already exist, and then below that hit on a few of our Lessard Builders favorites for October 2018 Fall Fun. The two links below are exceptional websites that have compiled all the October fun going on in Delaware and on Delmarva.

Visit Delaware’s Complete Fall and Halloween Event List

Delaware Haunted House’s Delaware 2018 Halloween Event Calendar

Those of us at Lessard Builders may not be full fledged Halloween experts, but we know a thing or two about Reese’s Cups, Snickers bars, trick or treating and Fall fun. Here are three local October events that are our:

October 2018 fun favorites

Boast The Coast, Saturday October 6th &  Coast Day, Sunday October 7th

Coast Day has been a University of Delaware Fall tradition for decades. It’s sibling event, the Boast the Coast celebration, is occurring for the 23rd year in conjunction with it. These back-to-back local festivals celebrate Delaware’s relationship with the ocean and Coastal Delaware’s centuries of nautical heritage. If you are looking for some first weekend of October fun, look no further!

We recommend you start off the festivities on Saturday exploring Downtown Lewes and Canalfront Park for Boast the Coast. Boast the Coast is a psuedo festival where many local businesses set up for a huge sidewalk sale with the very best of their ocean spirit: so, you can expect tons of food (seafood in particular), vendors, and activities. There will also be an Oktoberfest celebration from 2pm to 6pm in Canalfront Park for the second year in a row.

The next day, Sunday, University of Delaware’s Hugh R. Sharp (Pilottown Road) campus hosts their traditional Coast Day event! Coast Day is magnificent because it provides a fun, engaging, hands on event where people of all ages can learn about the ocean, modern ocean research, and our ocean history. Coast Day activities include seafood cooking demonstrations from local chefs, ship tours, touch tanks filled with ocean creatures for kids to learn about, food vendors, shopping, and over a dozen rooms filled with different talks and presentations.

Bottom line: Boast The Coast and Coast Day are worth a definite earmark for the 6th and 7th!

Rehoboth Beach Sea Witch Parade Oct 26th-28th

Sea Witch Festival Program- https://www.beach-fun.com/images/SWProgram2018.AsOf9.14.18.pdf

We love the Sea Witch Festival and Parade! The Sea Witch Festival is one of Coastal Delaware’s biggest Fall attractions and has continued to improve and grow with each year. 2018 should be more fun than ever. Residents and visitors alike flock to downtown Rehoboth on Saturday to watch as hundreds of local businesses and residents parade down the Rehoboth avenue in extravagant costumes and on ornately crafted floats! The parade and parade float/costume contest is one of the highlights, but there are also dozens of other activities. From a “witches cackle” contest, to dog costume competitions, to face painting and trick or treating you won’t want to miss this crown jewel of Fall Fun in Coastal Delaware.

Oh, be sure to keep an eye out for us and our Lessard Builders float in the parade on Saturday!

Cape Henlopen State Park’s 30th Children’s Halloween Fantasy Trail

Saturday October 26th 6pm – 8pm,  Sunday October 27th 6pm – 7:30pm

One of the best child-friendly Halloween activities in Delaware. Cape Henlopen State Parks transforms into a Halloween Fantasy Trail wonderland the weekend before Halloween. The State Park sets up their Fantasy Trail as a walking trick-or-treat trail filled with candy, toys, and it’s lined with all your kids favorite storybook characters along the way. Once your kiddies are finished trick or treating there is also entertainment, games and activities taking place under their big tent each evening. It’s a great way for you to take your kids whether you’re solo or you have a huge group of their friends. If you have questions about Cape Henlopen’s Fantasy Trail, call 302-645-6852.

We hope you all enjoy your October!

You see them in your neighborhood or down the street working on new homes with the best materials  They’re responsible for the skyscrapers in our cities, our national infrastructure and many comforts of our everyday lives. You these people working outside on the hottest days of summer and the most frigid of winter. So who are we alluding to? The men and women who have made a career in the RKC Construction 9923 Paseo Montalban #B, San Diego, CA 92129 (619) 449-5899!

Please join us this week in celebration and appreciation of the men, women and companies nationwide in the American construction industry. We’d like to take this moment to say #ThanksForBuilding to the men and women who work as part of the construction industry.

Construction Appreciation Week Image

Some Dream, Others Build

The American construction industry has existed as a backbone of American society since the very earliest settlers arrived. In our nation’s infancy it was these hard working people who labored to transform America from a large wooded forest into a civilized, organized country. Today most work done by the Construction industry occurs ‘behind the scenes’, yet the industry’s presence is something we feel throughout America. Thanks to the advancement in technology which have helped develop better tools offering higher precision one can find on https://www.logsplitteradvisor.com/best-manual-hydraulic-log-splitter-reviews/ , these workers are able to achieve excellence and deliver perfection. Construction workers are responsible for building us better highways and hospitals, new homes, our workplaces and schools. The construction industry may not be glamorous, but the men and women who work in construction make an impact through their work that reaches far beyond the job site.

Building homes and businesses is our Lessard family heritage and construction has been our family trade for four generations. We swing our hammers, sketch out custom home plans and work on the construction site with a smile each day. The Construction industry has given Lessard Builders a way to help hundreds of families and to also revitalize the Delaware communities where we work and live. Therefore we are forever grateful for the construction industry and for the skilled men and women who work in construction across America, there will be many construction contacts available, for anything you need, https://performancebasedheatingandair.com/ will also be there to provide guidance. To all our construction brethren and sisters, we appreciate your hard work every single day. Thank you!

Each year when we meet with clients, one of the most common questions we’re asked is about the hottest and most popular building products we’re using. Everyone is looking for building supplies, and they of course want the very best. Who can blame them. These things need to be built to last, so only the best building materials will do. They’re a considerable investment after all. Before 2019 gets any closer we wanted to take a moment today to give you all the scoop! After dozens of meetings and hours with clients designing and customizing their floor plans, here are a few of these favorites… our hottest building and home products of 2018!

Hottest Building and Home Products of 2018

  • ICON Composite Siding by CertainTeed- “Imagine the beauty of wood panel siding the replicates cedar planks, with durability that goes beyond that of natural wood and fiber cement. Now add performance that withstands the elements, harsh conditions and the test of time.” We think this description from CertainTeed’s ICON Siding web page is spot on. CertainTeed’s new ICON Siding delivers on the hype in spades. The first thing we love about ICON Siding is its visual appearance. ICON’s wide face and extra-long panels have an exceptionally clean and continuous feel. ICON Siding panels’ have a 7-inch wide face and are 16-foot-long, and it’s this extra width and length that replicates the clean look and style of traditional wood siding.

The other quality we admire about ICON siding is its’ phenomenal “Stacklock” installation system. ICON Siding pieces lock into each during installation using their proprietary locking system which makes ICON exceptionally durable against wind and weather and allows for installers to fasten it to your home with hidden nails! Yes, that means no more unsightly nails visible in the middle of your siding! We love ICON Siding as one of 2018’s “hottest” and best building products such as the composite door Bristol collection you can order online!

    ICON Composite Siding
The shades and blinds offered at Affordable Blinds were awesome.

  • Azek Products- The folks at Azek have spent years creating building materials that outperform the competition. We choose Azek for our new homes because of its style and exceptional durability. No matter the specific type of Azek building product you require- decking, trim, porch etc.- Azek is the best of the best.  Fiberon decking is one of the newer companies in the composite decking work. High-performance and eco-friendly, Fiberon composite decking delivers gorgeous looks and incredible durability. Azek’s products come in a wide variety of both colors and authentic wood-like looks. Best of all, Azek is engineered to avoid the alleviate the maintenance headaches of wood or wood products. Azek’s engineering team continues to evolve and enhance their building products and at Lessard Builders we continue to be amazed! We recommend Azek building products as some of the very best on the market! Azek is one of our most popular of our 2018 “hottest” home building products.

  • Schluter DITRA Waterproof Tile Membrane/Uncoupling System- We’re builders, it’s only natural that one of our 2018 “hottest” products is a building product that gets hidden beneath the floors of our Lessard homes. If you invest in staging when selling a house, you will be surprised at how much it increases the value of your sale. If there is a  damaged fence you can schedule chain link fence repair services. With the help from these products, your staging project will be impressive. Meet the Schluter DITRA Waterproof system; something that all our customers love, even though few know or ask about it.
  • We utilize Schluter’s DITRA systems to ensure our customers have the best protected and well-built home for years to come and Fixing tile lippage issues. What we find so exceptional about these DITRA systems is their durability, flexibility, and their unmatched DITRA systems are specifically designed, “to provide waterproof and uncoupling protection for ceramic and stone tile to prevent cracked tile and grout,” and provide “a waterproofing layer that protects moisture-sensitive substrates, such as plywood/OSB. Free-space on the underside of the matting (also) provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to prevent damage to the tile layer above.” The bottom line is, when we build homes we aim to build homes that will stand for generations. DITRA systems assist us in building the highest quality, most water tight homes. For these reasons we feel excellent naming Schluter’s DITRA System the last of our hottest home and building products of 2018!

Celebrating Grandparent’s Day 2018

Did you know that, since 1978, the Second Sunday in September has been hailed as National Grandparent’s Day? If you already knew of National Grandparent’s Day, we’re impressed! We, like many of you out there, hadn’t heard a peep about this holiday to celebrate Grandparents until very recently. Yet while just learned about Grandparent’s Day, we quickly realized this little-known holiday celebrates some of the most deserving and important people- the older members of our family who came before us. Join all of us in honoring and remembering the elders in our lives and our communities who helped mold and show us the way. This Sunday, September 9th, is Grandparent’s Day 2018.

The Origin of a National Grandparents Day

Forty years ago, President Jimmy Carter decided Grandparents and elders also deserved a National day of recognition. At the proclamation ceremony in which National Grandparent’s Day was created, Carter declared, “The Elders in each family have the responsibility for setting the moral tone for the family and passing on the values of our Nation to their children and grandchildren. They bore the hardships and made the sacrifices that produced much of the progress and comforts we enjoy today.” What is striking about President Carter’s words is that while they rang clear in 1978, forty years later they still resonate. Grandparents are often key figures in helping us and our children to imagine and dream, create a connection to family culture and develop a sense of our past and family history.

Grandparent’s Day and Our Lives

Take this moment to think back to the most influential people in your life… who are they?

Some of you may immediately have thought parents or grandparents, siblings, aunts or uncles, friends etc. but regardless of who popped into your head- they were likely influenced at some point by an elder who took the time to help mold, mentor and set the tone for them. President Carter created this day to recognize the critical role of elders and Grandparents in the successful foundation and growth of American society in a way similar to Mother’s and Father’s Day.

Grandparent’s Day is especially important to us at Lessard Builders. It was Dan Lessard, our founder and Grandfather/Great-Grandfather, who laid the foundation for Lessard Builders. Dan then taught his son Addie the carpentry, management and construction skills needed to be an exceptional builder and someday pass along the family trade. It was that carpenter-builder foundation which was passed from Dan to his son Addie which in time filtered down to Dan’s Grandsons- including Brian Lessard, our owner today. Without the foundation laid by past generations Lessard Builders and many businesses would not exist today.

Dan Lessard hard at work on the construction site.

Addie hard at work to ensure this 2 x 6 is a perfect fit. As the old adage goes, "Measure twice, cut once."
The second generation of Lessard’s building; Addie, working on site.
A young Brian Lessard hard at work and eager to learn on the job site.
Two generations of Lessard ‘builders’ discussing the job and family trade.

Please take a moment this Sunday, September 9th to honor and remember the elders in your family and your life who lit the torch to show you the way. As Socrates once said, “Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” If not for many a Grandparent’s stories, love and encouragement, most of us and our Nation would be very different today.

When the growth of the region began a few decades ago, many real estate developers were looking for attractions to draw the attention of those who were considering living at the Delaware beaches. What unfolded was a race to purchase land and develop recreational activities with appeal to people who desired an escape from the congestion of the Northeast. Since then, Sussex County has been steadily gaining notoriety as one of the hottest places to move to. And as the days grow warmer, one of the region’s hidden jewels begins to awaken with the flowers. What am I referring to? The exceptional and diverse golfing opportunities and golf courses that adorn the Sussex County landscape.

Whether you live in Lewes or Bethany Beach, Milford or Georgetown, it is very likely that you live within minutes of one of these sparkling green gems. We’re going to give you an overview of six of our favorite Sussex County courses, broken down into two categories: Beginner courses and Advanced courses. Also, a word of advice, many smaller golf courses in Delaware accept only cash so be sure to bring some. Have fun and enjoy yourself this Spring and Summer! FORE!

Beginner courses:

Midway Par 3 Golf Course, Lewes, DE
Located directly off Rt. 1 in Lewes, this par-3 course provides both new and experienced golfers a fun, simple, and affordable way to get into the game of golf. What makes this course great for beginners is that they rent both golf clubs and golf balls, most of the holes are wide open, short, and relatively free of obstacles. The course also has zero sand traps that can be so pesky for beginning golfers. A great place to learn how to swing a golf club, practice your “short game” or teach little ones how to play.

American Classic Golf Club, Lewes, DE
Another par-3 course in Lewes, this course is another great place for a beginning golfer to play the game of golf. American Classic provides a bit more challenge than does the Midway Par 3 course as holes are a bit longer and the course does include sporadic sand traps. A nice step up for all golfers, but especially a new golfer who is ready for a moderate challenge.

Stenger’s Shamrock Farms Par 3, Milton, DE
This course in Milton is another great place to learn, work on using your irons and on your “short game” and overall have a great time. Stenger’s is a well maintained short course with wide open fairways and very nice greens. Beginners and experienced golfers alike will have a blast on this lush green playground.

Advanced courses:

The Rookery North Golf Course, Milford, DE
One of Sussex County Delaware’s first golf courses, The Rookery North in Milford is a great spot for any golfer looking to test out all their clubs. This full-length 18-hole course is a great step up for a moderate golfer; the course is open and free of water hazards and includes a small range for practicing with your irons on before a round. One of the better full-length courses in the area for a golfer still learning the game or refining their swing. We also recommend their slightly more difficult sister course, The Rookery South Golf Course.

Baywood Greens Golf Course, Long Neck, DE
Baywood, located on Rt. 24 in Long Neck, is one of eastern Delaware’s nicest, best maintained, and most challenging courses. An excellent place for an experienced golfer, Baywood includes plenty of trees lining the fairways, a plethora of water hazards and challenging greens. The course is truly a delight to play for any golfer who wants to test their swing and step up their game. Be sure to bring your A-game.

The Salt Pond Golf Club, Bethany Beach, DE
The Salt Pond is a beautiful mid-length public golf club located off Rt.1 and Fred Hudson Rd. in Bethany Beach. A perfect mix of hills, water hazards, sand traps and open areas, The Salt Pond is a place where advanced golfers can go for an easier round and newer golfers can go to hone their swing. With a full array of services available this course has everything you could desire. It also has one other nice aspect, a round of golf is exceptionally reasonable no matter what time of day or year.

Last week Lessard Builders joined hands with Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity, roughly two dozen subcontractor construction companies including Ryker Hardware, and dozens of volunteers all equipped with the best drillpressor, saws and hand trucks came together to accomplish a herculean feat. The Lessard-Habitat coalition set out to build a home- from foundation to completely finished- in just four days for AmeriCorps Delaware! The project, known as the 2018 Habitat for Humanity Builders Blitz, began on Tuesday May 29th and finished up in the afternoon of June 1st. When sod finally covered the front yard at 115 Pine Street in Wyoming on Friday June 1st it became apparent; Lessard Builders with their subcontractor partners and volunteers had accomplished the improbable!

The project, the 2018 Builders Blitz, will provide volunteers of AmeriCorps Delaware with a place to live in during their service time in Central Delaware. Planning for the 2018 Builders Blitz began months ago and was made possible thanks to Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity, the support of the mayor and town of Wyoming, and multiple financial partners, roof replacement contractors and community groups. Dozens of subcontractor construction businesses from all over Delaware also volunteered by donating materials and hours of their businesses’ labor to assist Lessard Builders and Habitat with the 2018 Builders Blitz for AmeriCorps Delaware.

On Day one walls for the first and second floor were installed, then a roof thanks to Palm Coast roofers, the purpose and potential of building this 2018 Builders Blitz home for Habitat and AmeriCorps was what attracted many who participated. The home will house AmeriCorps service members who come into Central Delaware to give back and serve by completing various local projects throughout the Dover community. What struck Lessard Builders owner Brian Lessard Sr is how this home will continue giving back to Central Delaware, thus paying it forward long after the work on it was completed. “Truth is that I have to thank Habitat for the opportunity to be involved in such an awesome project. From the Lessard’s standpoint it is very important to be involved in community efforts. I can’t thank enough the subcontractors and suppliers, and Habitat volunteers as well… this would not be possible at all if it wasn’t for them. [We] all understand that it is important to take time to give back to a worthy cause… this home here will play a role in building so many more homes since we will now partner with the electrician dublin help.”

While a four-day home build may sound insane, the project represented the truest sense of community. Various crews came in and out and contributed their special skills all while working alongside others from other companies like commercial roofing st louis. The volunteers and subcontractors worked from sunrise to sunset side-by-side as efficiently as possible yet without sacrificing an ounce of quality which is why they also had the House Siding Soft Wash to make sure it is clean.

Then interior walls and windows, insulation, electrical from with Las Vegas Electrician contractors help, heating and plumbing installs were completed. Day two was another exciting day with the entire home drywalled and sanded, the exterior siding installed, the kitchen work began and so much more. Day three saw the completion of the kitchen installation, flooring installation, window and door frame installation, woodwork continuing and so much more. The final day, Day four continued smoothly and with tons of excitement- light fixtures and finishing touches were completed, kitchen appliances were set in their place and connected, the home was fully landscaped and finally the house numbers were hung next to the garage.

In all Lessard Builders is proud to have worked with Central Delaware Habitat and all the volunteers to complete this 2018 Builders Blitz home in four days along many more water restoration projects in the community after the rainy season. It was a massive success and we are honored to pay it forward for the volunteers of today and tomorrow who give their time to AmeriCorps and Central Delaware. There is an adage that a person worries less when they know more. In the United States in 2018 it is estimated there will be a home break-in roughly once every twenty seconds. You just spent your savings to build and move into your beautiful new home… so what is next on your to-do list? Upping your home’s defenses to minimize that risk of break-in is an excellent place to start. Make use of professional locksmith services like Liberty Locksmith of Calgary service to make sure your home and office is secure.

As a homeowner, the first thing you must know is, what to do in case you get locked out of your home due to certain circumstances as this could save your life someday. As a homeowner, yes, it is impossible to completely prevent a break-in. With that said there are many steps listed on the Kwikey Locksmith’s landing page you can take to keep your home as secure as possible. Instead of droning on for pages about security tips and suggestions, we want to share an exceptional resource will all of you; The Comprehensive Guide to Securing Your Home from Safehome.org.

Safe guarding your home should be on the list of top priorities for you. Adding security cameras and having Wired Fire Alarm Device Installation can be great tools for prevention and protection. Therefore if you are on the lookout for experts who install safety features into your home for a reasonable price, do visit Perth mobile locksmith. You will be pleasently surprised.

For those of you that don’t have time to completely read it, here is a short summary of the guides’ four best tips:

1) Burglars are opportunists. What do you think they look for on first glance when scoping a house? That’s right make sure your doors and all your windows are completely closed and locked whenever you leave your home. If these windows seem unsafe or you’re not too sure, then call the experts in home windows and consult with them if you need a window replacement. They might have a few reinforcing security measures to make sure those burglars look elsewhere. Remember, they go for easy targets almost exclusively, so any bit of deterrent you can afford to add will help.

You’ll want to make sure you get window professionals to ensure a perfect fit . Whether you are running a quick errand or not, your risk increases significantly if you leave windows and doors unlocked, we recommend using residential glass services to make sure your windows are durable and of a great quality, this way it won’t be easy for someone to break into your home. It allows for easy access without any barriers to entry. This way you enhance the security.

2) Keep your home well-lit, especially at night. Potential burglars know that their chances of detection are much greater if they can easily be seen. Do you think it seems pointless to leave a light or two on after you go to bed? With the energy efficiency of LED lightbulbs for a few dollars a year you greatly maximize your home’s evening defenses. Another good tip is to keep shrubbery well maintained, which minimizes places for a burglar to hide.

3) Make a concerted effort to get to know your neighbors. Creating relationships with those that live around you is a priceless defensive resource. When you go away, having people in your neighborhood who can collect your packages/mail and keep an eye on your home is invaluable. Burglars look for signs that they can get in and out of a home without detection; nothing screams ‘break in’ quite like a full mailbox and a growing stack of packages from Amazon sitting on your doorstep.  Kingstone Locksmith in Philadelphia provides a reassuring feeling that you are doing everything you can to protect your family and business.

4) Consider investing in home security technology. Perhaps you don’t want a full-fledged 24/7 monitored home security system. There are a handful of interior/exterior wireless cameras and motion detectors that you can install yourself. These cameras often come with an app that sends alerts directly to your phone, like drones used for the security reasons, see more about SixTech Systems providing those. Burglars would likely be deterred by the cameras alone, yet your defenses are even greater when you are always aware of what is happening in your home.

It has been 5 months since we took possession of our Lessard built home. We are pleased Lessard was our chosen builder as the house more than meets all of our expectations. From the workmanship, to the paint, the floors, the trim, the appliances and the total layout, we are extremely pleased. The Lessard family was there, by our side during all phases and remains a mere phone call away now that we are in. We, without reservation or hesitation, recommend Lessard Builders to anyone thinking about building their dream home. You will not be disappointed!

The entire Lessard team was amazing in helping us build the house of our dreams. From our very first meeting with them and throughout the process, they were extremely responsive. Their attention to detail was incomparable. We had a vision and they made it happen!

King family home

When we walked in the door of the Lessard model we were greeted by the builder himself and his daughter. We realized this clearly was a family business where the homes were built with pride, and it was never lost on my mother and I that our home was built as though we were family. My home is so well constructed that when the nor’easters blow at 65mph, my draperies never waft! We made so many changes to our home that I think the only original walls were the exterior, yet Lessard Builders didn’t charge us for rearranging the floor plan and moving all those walls. The Lessard team worked with us for over a year as we worked our floor plan to suit our needs and there was never a sense of rush or urgency. I’ve never had so much fun and our home turned out absolutely perfect.
