This morning I watched an interview on USA Today with a business analyst who spoke on the self storage industry. The analyst explained that the demand for self storage has doubled since 1998. The reasons stated were very similar to those that we’ve seen in the real estate industry over the past few years. The average house size has evolved due to downsizing to smaller square footage for retirement, people are moving more frequently and soon to be retirees are building vacation homes in places like the Delaware beaches for future retirement. In addition to recent real estate trends, people just need a secure place to store their stuff! About ten years ago we built and opened All Climate Storage Center, a self storage facility with climate and non-climate controlled storage units in Lewes, Delaware. Over the years we have realized that the need for self storage is not limited to homeowners. Self storage needs are important to nearby businesses, pharmaceutical representatives, local charities, real estate organizations and restaurants.
